Our Outdoor Classroom

The best classroom and richest cupboard is roofed only by the sky.
— McMillan, 1952

Our Outdoor Classroom is a drop-off, rain or shine outdoor learning programme suitable for children ages 3-8 years old. During these 2-hour sessions, children engage in free exploration of the natural environment, meaningful interactions with peers and guides, and reflective experiences that encourage self-discovery and character development.

Our unique programme is centered on children’s interests and experiences with nature, capturing their inherent curiosity about how our world works. The curriculum is dynamic and individualised, catering to children of different ages, backgrounds, and abilities.

  • Child-led learning and exploration

  • Opportunities to develop important life and social skills

  • Builds upon children’s learning and communication skills

  • Encourages creativity, problem-solving and independence

Each session’s activities are inspired by nature, children’s prior understanding and knowledge, and their interests. Everything else unfolds organically, driven by their actions, thoughts, ideas and interactions with peers and the environment. The possibilities are endless! This is the way we believe learning in the early years should be.

Class Information

Each of Our Outdoor Classroom classes consists of little rangers of mixed ages, with a 1:4 guide to child ratio. Such small class sizes encourage free exploration and creative individual expression within a safe and supportive environment. Our guides bond and build positive relationships with each child, and become strong advocates for their learning and holistic development.

We are currently running 4 classes at different locations:

  • Monday, 3.30 - 5.30pm @ Botanic Gardens

  • Thursday, 3.30 - 5.30pm @ East Coast Park

  • Saturday, 9.00 - 11.00am @ Botanic Gardens

  • Saturday, 3.30 - 5.30pm @ Labrador Park

On their learning journeys with us, our little rangers progress through different levels of knowledge, skills, and development all at their own pace. They will earn a Roots and Boots badge upon the completion of each level, with the encouragement and support of their guides and friends. Each badge reflects positive attitudes and values that we want our rangers to embody.
