Roots & Boots Graduation 2026: Celebrating Growth, Confidence, and New Adventures

Our second-ever Roots & Boots Graduation was a truly special celebration! Set against the beautiful natural surroundings of Pulau Ubin, we gathered with our graduates and their families to celebrate a milestone that marked not just the end of a journey, but the beginning of many new adventures ahead.

The day began with a heartwarming graduation walk-in. Each graduate was proudly carried in by their parents, symbolising the love, support, and encouragement that had accompanied them throughout their Roots & Boots journey. Parents then shared speeches reflecting on their children’s experiences and growth during their time in our forest school. It was a meaningful way to begin the celebration and look back on the wonderful memories they had created together.

Unlike a traditional graduation ceremony, our graduates became the teachers for the day. They confidently took charge of different activity stations, guiding their parents and guests through the outdoor skills they had learnt over the years.

At the Knot-Tying Station, our graduates taught participants how to tie a clove hitch and a corner lashing. They patiently demonstrated each step before checking that everyone had tied the knots correctly. It was wonderful to see the children taking ownership of their knowledge and confidently leading the activity.

Over at the Fire Safety Station, families learnt important outdoor safety skills. The graduates demonstrated what to do if clothing catches fire—Stop, Drop, and Roll—before introducing participants to fire-starting techniques using matches and a flint and steel. Parents and children worked together to build their own fires before heading to the barbecue pit, where they put their new skills into practice by preparing and cooking their food together.

As the day also coincided with Father’s Day, we took the opportunity to celebrate all the amazing dads! There were plenty of laughs during our Father’s Day challenge as dads carried their children while doing squats. Encouraged by the teachers, some dads even gave carrying their wives a go for another round of squats, bringing lots of laughter and cheers from everyone around.

With the Dragon Boat Festival just around the corner, families also took part in a festive relay game. Parents and children climbed onto their “boats” and worked together to race across the course before tossing their “dumplings” into the target. It was a joyful activity that encouraged teamwork, communication, and plenty of friendly competition.

As the celebrations came to a close, we reflected on just how much our graduates have grown. From curious explorers to resilient, capable, and confident young leaders, each child has embraced challenges, developed valuable life skills, and formed unforgettable memories throughout their time in our outdoor forest school.

We ended the day, as we always do, with our heartfelt goodbye song—a fitting way to celebrate the friendships, adventures, and growth that make Roots & Boots so special.

To our graduates, we are incredibly proud of everything you have achieved. May you continue to stay curious, embrace new challenges, and always remember the roots that have grounded you and the boots that will carry you wherever your journey leads next.

Congratulations, Class of 2026! 🌿🥾
