From the moment children step onto the ferry, the learning begins. The journey to Pulau Ubin offers real opportunities to talk about water safety, awareness, and responsible behaviour around open water. It sets the tone for the day — learning that is active, practical, and connected to real situations.
Once on the island, children explore Ubin’s forests and coastal areas, encountering a wide range of plants and wildlife. Along the way, we have ongoing conversations about animal safety — how to observe wildlife respectfully, keep a safe distance, and understand that we are visitors in these habitats. Children learn how their actions affect animals and why calm, mindful behaviour matters in natural spaces.
Throughout the programme, children are introduced to fire-making with care and clear safety boundaries. They learn about preparation, patience, and respect for fire as a useful tool. When the fire is ready, children get to barbecue their own food, an experience that often becomes a highlight of the day. Cooking for themselves builds confidence and a strong sense of independence — the feeling that they are capable and trusted to do something real.
Children also learn shelter-building skills, including tying essential knots and using ropes and tarps to build simple, functional tents. Working together, they plan, test, and adjust their structures, developing teamwork, problem-solving skills, and perseverance along the way.
Beyond the outdoor skills, there is space for personal growth. Children learn to manage discomfort, adapt to changing conditions, and support one another. Those who are hesitant gain confidence through small successes, while others learn to slow down, listen, and lead thoughtfully.
For parents, the value is often seen after the programme ends. Children return home more confident, more aware of safety and risk, and more respectful of nature and wildlife. They begin to understand that meaningful learning comes from doing, reflecting, and taking responsibility for themselves and their environment.
We are going on another adventure to Pulau Ubin this March – Do join us, We are waiting for you! 😊
